What Do Figs And Pizza Dough Have In Common?
…They know how to party!
In my newly wed days when I didn't know what the heck I was doing in the kitchen, someone lovely showed me how to make a homemade pizza. For ten years I have made all kinds of pizzas, but these two? I am addicted! And I was like, "Where have you been all my life?"
Preheat oven to 400. Bake for 20 minutes.
4 cups flour
1 Tbs yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 Tbs. olive oil
2 tsp. salt
1 Tbs. honey
(Throw into a bread machine!)
And now for my secret...
Once the dough is ready, split in half for two pizzas and roll out. On one, spread fig butter over the top, as much as your heart desires! If you don't have a Trader Joe's near you, check out other health food stores, or you could look online.
Next, crumble gorgonzola cheese in your hand and spread liberally over pizza. On top of the gorgonzola sprinkle mozzarella. Done!
For the next pizza I used a marinara sauce and spread over the dough. Then added mozzarella, chopped red onion, pineapple, and chopped up cooked bacon. Then I got the great idea to toss chopped up kale into the cooled bacon grease (you could use olive oil too). I sprinkled the kale over the pizza and when it came out it was crispy and delightful!
