Preschool Dude

Elias has changed quite a bit since starting preschool last November. Thanks to his classmates he has learned to climb tables, chairs, and cabinets. He says, "Ow" at random times, even when nothing hurts. And he has learned to say, "Mine!" with more passion then any child I know.

The first day I dropped Elias off at school, I was sad. It took me a few weeks to adjust to not having him around as much. I guess I have a hard time sharing him.

As time went on, I realized how much Elias loved his class...especially singing songs. But what really blessed me was to see how much Elias' teachers loved him.

There were a few times I would randomly visit Elias' class and I would see him resting his head on one of his teachers during story time. I could tell he trusted them and he enjoyed being around them.

I have so much appreciation for teachers who are passionate about teaching children with special needs. Their patience was beautiful to watch. Their strength as they picked up a five-year-old throwing a tantrum was to be admired. Their sprint to chase down a "runaway" was exciting! I feel honored to come alongside teachers like this. And I am thankful that I can learn from them.

Elias has accomplished a lot in the last six months. I am so proud of him.

I guess you could say I have changed a lot as well...and to think, this is just the beginning of a sweet journey.
