Weekend High

We packed it in this weekend. And it's gonna be a hard weekend to beat. We met up with old friends, harassed ducks, celebrated Grandma Blue Door's birthday, and got freaky on the dance floor in San Diego. I feel like I'm on a weekend high.

Saturday morning we planned an escape to the beach for Grandma Blue Door's birthday (Vitali gave her this name because her front door is blue). It was a little chilly but it didn't change our party on the sand. We had such a fun morning with her.

And then there's the night life! Saturday night we went to the DSA Gala. Each time I go to an event like this I fall more in love with people with Down syndrome. It's nights like these that I become more confident that God knew exactly what he was doing when he created these beautiful people.

We had the privilege of listening to an inspirational speaker. Her name is Lauren Potter, ever heard of her? Lauren plays the role of Becky on the TV series Glee. At the end of her speech she shouted with passion, "And no matter what, never give up!!" I don't think there was a dry eye in the audience.

As soon as the music started, the dance floor flooded with people who loved celebrating life, we blended right in.

While everyone was dancing, I approached Lauren to ask her for a picture with me. She responded to me with, "Now's not a good time." So I asked her if I could dance with her, she said, "Now's really not a good time." The girl knows when it's time to dance and doesn't want anyone or anything to interfere.

Weekends like this are good for the soul. My life is a little more complete now.
