Thirty-One Days Of Love
October is just around the corner. I'm not really sure how that happened so fast. It seems like we were just starting summer a few weeks ago. Fall is my favorite season, I'm pretty sure we were meant for each other. Here are a few reasons why: I look great in autumn colors (as my mother-in-law would say, "You're an autumn"), it's close to my last name, I love baking, I get giddy about decorating for a holiday, it's my husband's, mom's, and nieces birthdays, but most importantly I love October because it stands for something I am passionate about. October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
I am passionate about this month because it is an opportunity to celebrate the lives of people I love. People who have a voice and need to be heard. I am a mother to a boy who has Down Syndrome and I am an advocate for all of his friends.
I'm going to spend October pouring out my love for these beautiful people here on my blog. I thought it would be a great opportunity for you as well. I would love for you to ask any questions you have for me. Questions that you might feel nervous about asking me (or someone else you know) in person. You're probably not the only one wondering. Throughout the month I will answer your questions. Here are a few examples:
- Are you offended by the word "retarded"?
- Is it common for young women to have a baby with Down Syndrome, or is it mostly just older women?
- How has having a child with special needs affected your marriage?
Use this form and ask away! Your name is optional, I won't tell anyone who asked. I am excited to hear from you.
It is going to be a good month, for many reasons...
